About Year of Rest

Rest has so often been out of reach for the Black community, and we still have a long way to go to make rest equitable.

In June 2020, we started our partnership with Rachel Cargle to launch Year of Rest, offering nature as a restorative refuge to those working toward racial justice — from artists and educators, to activists and entrepreneurs.

This year, we’re thrilled to continue our commitment to Year of Rest by again providing 365 free Getaways to those in the Black community fighting for change.

FAQ

What is Postcard Cabins?

Located two hours outside major cities, Postcard Cabins offers restorative stays in nature, where you can unplug and unwind with those who matter most.

How are nominees notified if they received a free night?

We’ll contact the recipient and the nominator directly. If the recipient gives us permission to share their story, they'll be featured on our Journal and Instagram.

When and where can the free night be used?

Recipients can use their night at Postcard Cabins whenever they choose within two years of being awarded with it. The free night is valid at any of our locations.

What about transportation?

Year of Rest recipients will need to secure their transportation to the outpost.

Terms and Conditions

No purchase necessary. Getaway will continue to receive nominations until all 365 nights in total are awarded, but in no event shall submissions be accepted after September 19, 2022. Recipients will be selected by the Getaway Team, and will be notified via email. Employees of Getaway House, Inc. are not eligible. Recipients will receive a one night Getaway at any Getaway Outpost, where standard booking terms apply. Getaway reserves the right to change the above terms in its sole discretion without prior notice.
